MUD’s have a special terminology all their own — words have a specific meaning, and some meanings are particular to individual worlds. You can learn MUD terminology by picking it up while playing the game and from reading the online documentation, which will put you in a much better position to understand the game as it unfolds. A few common MUD specific words are described below:
- Cyberportals. Automatic features which connect you to another server.
- Maving. Named after a player on TinyMUD who put a colon on the front of a whisper, causing his private messages to be broadcast to the whole room. It is now used to apply to any confusion involving the “say”, “whisper”, “page”, or “pose” commands
- Triggers. Automatic actions which take place when certain events occur, such as a greeting to a player when they enter the room.
