As BroadbandNow’s senior industry analyst, Jason Shevik harnesses the power of BroadbandNow’s vast data set to uncover and measure industry trends.

Background

As BroadbandNow’s senior industry analyst, Jason Shevik harnesses the power of BroadbandNow’s vast data set to uncover and measure industry trends.

A graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in Mathematics, Jason has years of experience in data analysis. Since joining BroadbandNow in 2022, he has put that expertise to work by breaking down big facts about internet, from the growth (and loss) of certain types of broadband infrastructure to the real-world impact that trends of these sorts can have on pricing and consumer options.

Professional Background & Education

Jason earned a Bachelor of the Arts from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, where he majored in mathematics and a minor in computer science. He authored a senior thesis on the applications of abstract algebra in quantum resistant cryptography. While still in college, he wrote a program in Java that implemented another researcher’s proposed replacement for the RSA encryption algorithm based on Lie Theory.

After graduation, Jason worked as a data management specialist for several years before shifting his focus and bringing his masterful data skills to BroadbandNow’s research team.

Previously Published

Jason’s research work identifies trends in broadband development, pricing, and policies and examines the ways in which those trends impact everyday consumers.

Personal

A native of Minnesota’s St. Croix Valley, Jason enjoys following professional chess — and enjoys playing it himself, too (he favors the Smith-Mora Gambit and the Fried Liver Attack). He was a member of his college debate team and also participated in the unicycle club.
