Xfinity vs. Spectrum Performance Overview
Xfinity from Comcast is one of the largest, leading cable internet providers in the U.S., with service in 40 states and more than 18 million Wi-Fi hotspots across the country. In addition to a number of internet-only plans to choose from, Xfinity also provides multiple bundle offers to combine internet, TV, mobile, and home phone services.
Spectrum is the 2nd largest cable provider in the country, and one of the top three largest internet providers in the U.S., with service available in 42 states. They are best known for their no-contract plans and unlimited data options. Like Xfinity, Spectrum offers users a number of bundle packages to incorporate internet, TV, and phone services into their monthly plan.
Xfinity offers professional installation services for a one-time fee ranging from $60-90.
If you choose to install the internet service yourself, Xfinity will supply a self-install kit that includes a how-to guide, xFi wireless Gateway, and the necessary equipment—a coax cable, Ethernet cable, and a power cord. If you select a TV and internet bundle, you will only have to pay one installation fee, which will depend on the type of bundle you select.
Spectrum’s $49.99 professional installation fee is the same across the board, whether it’s for internet-only services, bundles, or TV.
To avoid that fee, you can request a self-install kit to set up the internet yourself. You will still be responsible for the separate Wi-Fi activation fee of $9.99 regardless of whether you choose to self-install or have one of their technicians install the internet for you.
Xfinity Contracts, Equipment Fees & Fine Print
Xfinity contracts can extend up to two years in duration, but they offer a contract-free option for an additional fee of $10/month.
If you do select a contract plan, early termination fees will be applicable and vary depending on your contract—be sure to read through the fine print of the agreement before committing to a contract to avoid any surprise fees. Equipment fees are not included in your bundle and start at $11/month.
Spectrum Contracts, Equipment Fees & Fine Print
Spectrum is a contract-free provider, so you won’t have to worry about any cancellation or early termination fees should you decide to switch providers.
They also offer a buyout of your existing contract for up to $500. Note that the initial monthly price is valid through one year, then standard rates will apply and your monthly price may raise. Equipment rentals are included in the price, but you’ll find a WiFi activation fee of $9.99, in addition to reconnection and late payment fees.
Xfinity Data Caps
Most of Xfinity’s internet plans cap data at 1 TB, but will automatically add 50 GB to your account for $10 should you exceed the monthly limit. Xfinity also provides the option to add unlimited data to any plan for an additional $50/month.
Spectrum Data Caps
Spectrum’s internet plans comes with unlimited data, so users don’t have to worry about data caps. Since unlimited data is automatically included in the monthly service price, there are no additional fees to be aware of in terms of data usage.
First time Xfinity subscriber. Exceeded my expectations. I can honestly say I was very impressed with all aspects of Xfinity. I just purchased a home in Delray Beach FL. From the initial appointment call to complete installation, Xfinity exceeded my expectations. Very impressed with the Tech. The tech arrived early. He introduced himself and ask me about my expectations. He explained what he was going to do and would have me watching NFL football today. Walked me through the setup and all options of the remote. I ordered cable and internet. I will say the internet service is faster than others. Very impressed with Xfinity.
Great internet service experience
I had a problem with internet connectivity. The service person from Xfinity who came today (May 25) was outstanding. He was courteous, knowledgeable, and patient -- a real pro. He checked outdoor connections, the indoor cable, the modem, etc., and kept going until the problem was resolved. I hope Xfinity gives him a commendation for his great work.
5 Stars all the way! Front desk scheduling any time of the day or night. Tech support calls no time limits, smart and always helpful, invested in your problem all the way. Thank you all so much for your kind attitude and willingness to help us.
We had been experiencing issues with the picture going black so we called Spectrum to try to get it rectified. A technician came by and what great service he provided. He was very friendly, professional, knowledgeable, courteous and very thorough. He checked everything and answered all of our questions. He gave us lots of useful information as well. I do not think my wife and I have ever had such great service before. Thank you.
