Spectrum vs. Frontier Performance Overview
As the second largest cable provider in the U.S., Spectrum offers reliable, high-speed internet with no data caps, which means customers have access to unlimited data. With a variety of bundle and triple play options, Spectrum offers internet, TV, and phone service. However, there is only one internet-only plan to choose from starting at $44.99/month.
Frontier Communications offers a trifecta of broadband options that includes DSL, fiber, and copper internet. As the fifth largest DSL provider and the fourth largest fiber provider in the U.S., Plans start at $27.99/month and the speed ranges between 6-1000 Mbps depending on location, device, and usage. Frontier provides a wide range of internet options that can be bundled with phone and/or TV service.
Spectrum offers two installation options: professional installation or self-installation.
If customers want to save money, then self-installation is the more affordable choice. Compared to a professional installation fee of $49.99, self-installation costs $9.99.
Frontier Communications also offers professional installation or self-installation.
The professional installation fee is $75, plus an additional $10/month equipment fee. There is no fee for self-installation, but a $9.99 delivery/handling fee is charged along with a $9.99 broadband processing fee. Please note that installation may take up to 8 hours once the technician arrives.
Spectrum Contracts, Equipment Fees & Fine Print
Spectrum offers contract-free plans.
As a result, customers do not have to worry about cancellation fees or long-term agreements. There are, however, late payment fees, which can cost up to $8.95/month. With Spectrum, there are no additional equipment fees if customers opt to purchase their own router. If not, then Spectrum offers a Wi-Fi router rental for $5/month.
Frontier Contracts, Equipment Fees & Fine Print
Like Spectrum, Frontier Communications does not require a contract with their plans but offers 1-2 year agreements.
If you do opt for a contract, keep in mind that early termination fees can cost up to $400. Equipment fees are $10/month with an additional $9.99 for delivery/handling fees and another $9.99 for the broadband processing fee.
Spectrum Data Caps
There are no data caps for Spectrum’s internet plans, so customers can enjoy high speeds without worrying about going over the data limit.
Frontier Data Caps
Frontier also does not have any data caps and therefore no data overage fees. Customers can download, stream, and play games with various high speeds.

Excellent customer service
The rep who assisted me is excellent (Brighton/Reno store) she is smart, patient, and kind. Thank you for helping me during a difficult time.
FiberOptic is top notch
Installer was very knowledgeable about how networks work and quickly patched in my line where I needed it. 6 months in and I saw an ad for 500/500 for the same price I had been paying for 200/200. A quick chat with sales and I upgraded for free. Highly recommend Frontier FiberOptic service.
Great customer service!! My service technician, went above and beyond to make sure everything with our power box was working correctly after it broke due to a power outage. He even checked out our router, even though I didn't call about it because I mentioned we lose connection a few times a month. My router was a piece of original and old equipment so he gave us a new one which should help with the disconnection we experience and WOW, our internet speed is much faster now. After hearing everyone's nightmare with Frontier's terrible customer service and them not showing up, I was expecting the worst, but they have stepped up their game and I was very happy and can't say enough positive things about the service I received. Thank you!!!
