Internet Access in Medford, Oregon

Medford features only two major Internet technology options — coaxial cable (98.95% coverage) and DSL (97.80% availability). Cable broadband is generally delivered through TV providers using copper coaxial television lines on telephone poles. DSL, similarly, is sent via twisted copper phone wires. The majority of Medford street addresses can subscribe to cable service or DSL service from two alternating Internet providers.

Since FCC data is currently tallied up twice a year and only made public six or more months after filing, provider availability listed may not reflect the latest upgrades. Our process incorporates coverage data directly from some providers to help reduce this delay.

Spectrum is also a commonly available Internet choice in Medford, offering Cable connections with coverage in 98 percent of the area. Umpqua Broadband offers an alternative wireless service for practically one hundred percent of the local area, although it needs roof access or proximity to a Umpqua Broadband tower or access point.

broadband choice is decent for households in Medford. The average Medford census block is served by 5-6 ISPs. Averaged for all census blocks, that's exactly 5.2 options in each household.

According to the most recent FCC filings, Viasat Internet and HughesNet are the strongest providers in Medford as measured by coverage area. As the map below demonstrates, these providers often overlap in most blocks around Medford.

Internet Statistics 2021

2,000 People Only have access to 1 or fewer wired internet providers available at their address.

This data is calculated from FCC datasets which providers are legally required to supply twice a year. We further validate this data for accuracy.

Medford is the 50th most connected city in Oregon ahead of Central Point, Talent, Phoenix, Jacksonville, and Eagle Point.

The “Connected” metric is a citywide average based on FCC data showing the density of broadband options at the census block level.

Approximately 4,000 people in Jackson County don't have access to any wired internet.

This statistic is drawn from the population in census blocks not served by at least one wired broadband provider.

Fiber Availability: 23% of people living in Medford have residential fiber service available to them.

Fiber coverage data is sourced from FCC Form 477 filings and cross-validated through BroadbandNow with private datasets and direct provider reporting.

Approximately 97% of Medford residents are serviced by multiple wired providers.

This coverage statistic is based on a mix of FCC and private provider reporting in the past two quarters.

In Jackson County, approximately 10,000 people do not have access to 25 Mbps wired broadband.

25 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload is the minimum speed for an Internet connection to be classified as “Broadband” by the FCC.

Data Caps and Cord Cutting in Medford

Data collected by our research team suggests that top providers in the area place a limit on data use on home broadband connections. Data caps are a public issue because consumers view caps as a strategy to limit "cord cutting", while providers maintain caps are a necessary tool as they struggle to manage network traffic. In either case, the culprit is over-the-top streaming, which easily eats up one to seven Gigabytes/hour.

Customer Reviews of Internet Providers in Medford

Paying for 200mbps download and getting 19.

Im not in the rural area yet Spectrum inet goes out many times per year with no explanation other than "you're at the end of the line", whatever that means. Then there is the fact that I have been paying for 200mbps download and only getting 19! I've had Spectrum for quite a while and I didn't realize how slow my download speeds are. You owe me Spectrum! In summary, I suggest you make sure you're getting what you are paying for with Spectrum.

Poor internet

Our internet is spotty at best. We cannot stream Netflix on our TV. The signal says it’s strong as it should be since the router is right next to it. I’ve bought a new router and it still doesn’t work. My other devices sometimes work. We use our mobile hotspot for internet and it’s way more reliable. Spectrum is not willing to figure out the problem. My guess is they either throttle the service or the modem is bad. But they claim the modem is fine. Definitely won’t be staying with them. It costs way too much for the little service we get.

Reliable Service, great customer support!

I was having internet issues after normal business hours and David was able to help me get going again! You guys rock.
