Best Internet Providers in Dallas, TX

If you’re shopping for internet in Dallas, your top choice should be the city’s only fiber internet provider: AT&T Fiber. AT&T Fiber offers remarkable top speeds. Its fastest plan serves some areas of Dallas with up to 5 Gbps — more than enough speed for any household. It also offers a range of plans that start at $55 per month. Even the “slower” AT&T Fiber plans are very fast, and the brand enjoys good ratings from customers in our local review data.

Your second-best option in Dallas is Spectrum, which has a monopoly on cable internet in the area. Cable internet isn’t quite as impressive as fiber internet, but it’s still a broadband connection type that should be fast enough to give you speedy and reliable home Wi-Fi. Spectrum also offers TV services, which makes it a good choice for customers looking to bundle their services. Spectrum’s bundles start at $49.99 per month.

There are other internet service companies serving Dallas (technically, there are 8 total). But we recommend Dallas residents focus on the fiber and cable internet options, rather than DSL, 5G home internet, or satellite. Fiber and cable are simply faster and more reliable than alternative internet connection types.

Fastest Internet Providers in Dallas, TX

The single fastest internet provider in Dallas is AT&T Internet, which has a top advertised speed of up to 5 Gbps.

In practice, though, it’s hard to go wrong with any plan that offers at least 500 Mbps. Some households can get by with less, but if you want your internet to “feel fast,” you’re probably looking for 500 Mbps and up. Gigabit speeds of 1 Gbps or 2 Gbps are even better; once you hit numbers like 5 Gbps, you’re probably going to have trouble noticing the difference. Only the most intense internet needs merit eye-popping speeds like that.

Cable internet can achieve gigabit speeds, though it’s good to remember that upload speeds are faster on fiber networks. With fiber, upload speeds and download speeds always match. With cable (and with DSL, too), upload speeds lag far behind download speeds.

Internet Availability in Dallas, TX

As would be the case in most cities, your internet options in Dallas will come down to where you live in the city. You’ll generally have to choose between one cable provider (for Dallas, that’s Spectrum) and one major telecom provider (in Dallas, that’s AT&T). For Dallas residents, the big question is: Will you have access to AT&T Fiber, the elite fiber internet option, or AT&T Internet (their IPBB — essentially DSL) product?

AT&T’s fiber network covers 67.1% of Dallas. There are a couple of areas where you’re unlikely to find it. Downtown Dallas, including the Dallas Downtown Historic District, is one of those places. The other is just across Route 30 in South Dallas, where AT&T Fiber coverage is pretty limited all the way along Route 45 to William Blair Jr. Park.

But it’s a different story in most of Dallas’ residential sprawl. AT&T Fiber has done a really good job of connecting the city. West Dallas is pretty well covered, with the exception of a missing patch south of Fish Trap Lake Park. Areas around Cockrell Hill are well-covered, too. You can expect to find AT&T Fiber available down in Redbird and Wolf Creek as well and over in Cedar Crest.

AT&T Fiber’s network is strong in Pleasant Grove (and across the city line in Balch Springs), as well as up in Forest Hills, Casa Linda, and Casa View. The same is true on the other side of White Rock Lake in neighborhoods like Lakewood and Lower Greenville. Northwest Dallas has plenty of AT&T Fiber availability, too.

If AT&T Fiber isn’t available in your area, though, rest assured you still have options for home Wi-Fi internet. Spectrum is absolutely everywhere in Dallas, with 93.4% coverage. Only places like parkland and airport runways keep that number from being 100%.
