If you’re looking for a new provider in Atlanta, you’ll most likely find AT&T or a cable provider available near you. AT&T Internet and Xfinity are the two most popular, offering DSL (which AT&T calls IPBB) and cable, respectively, to at least 95 percent of Atlanta. Fiber internet is available to 68 percent of the city, with AT&T Fiber and Earthlink as the most available fiber providers.

Fastest Internet Providers in Atlanta

While there are a number of providers offering gigabit (1,000 Mbps) speeds, only a few are worth it. Let’s start with fiber internet, the fastest type of wired internet to date. AT&T Fiber is the best option for fast fiber internet since Earthlink piggybacks AT&T’s network. With AT&T Fiber, you can get up to 1,000 Mbps for download and upload speeds for just $80 per month (excluding taxes and fees).

Cable internet from Xfinity is the next fastest option. Although Xfinity offers download speeds up to 1,200 Mbps, its upload speed maxes out at 30 Mbps.

Smaller households with no more than 5 heavy internet users can get a fast and stable connection with AT&T Internet, which offers up to 100 Mbps.

Yomura Fiber, a fixed wireless provider available in Atlanta, also offers gigabit speed, but its connection type makes it less reliable than the providers discussed above. We only recommend trying this service if you live in an area that has enough decent clearing for a dish to send and receive a signal.

Cheapest Internet in Atlanta

Xfinity has the cheapest, high-speed internet-only plans in Atlanta hands down, with prices ranging from just $29.99 per month for up to 50 Mbps, to $80 per month for 1,000 Mbps. AT&T Fiber offers similar pricing for their gigabit plan, but their prices start at $55 per month for 100 Mbps. Keep in mind these prices are promotional, meaning they only last a year or so.

Comparing AT&T and Xfinity

Most Atlantans choose AT&T or Xfinity not only because of their availability but also because of their deals. Both providers offer triple and double play bundles, and have some of the best promotions we’ve seen. With AT&T, you can bundle with DIRECTV or AT&T TV in packages ranging from $59.99-$139.99. New AT&T customers are often welcomed with reward or rebate cards, free streaming service subscriptions, and discounts if you’re also an AT&T wireless customer.

Xfinity bundles range from $54.99-$149.99 per month. New Xfinity customers receive a free streaming device and a free Peacock streaming subscription. You may want to consider Xfinity if you’re also looking for a new mobile provider or want to bundle home security with the rest of your home services.

Digital Equity Programs in Atlanta

For the few Atlantans without access to wired internet, the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library system provides free internet to city residents. You can also use the Free Public Wi-Fi map, published by the Georgia Broadband Program, to find the nearest Wi-Fi hotspot near you. During the pandemic, providers like Xfinity have continued to allow everyone access to their Wi-Fi hotspots.

Low-income internet is also available from the major providers listed above. For more information, call a provider or read our guide on low-income internet.

Internet Statistics for Atlanta, Georgia

With a booming entertainment industry, multiple colleges, and a downtown full of successful businesses, it’s no wonder why Atlanta stands as the 3rd most-connected city in the state of Georgia. Surpassing Smyrna, Scottdale, Decatur, Avondale Estates, and Clarkston, fast internet available across the city is a must in Atlanta. Broadband competition in this southern city is above-average in comparison to the rest of the state, with XFINITY from Comcast, AT&T Internet and AT&T Fiber as three of the most widely available provider choices. Because of its strong coverage, Atlanta also has a decent fiber footprint, with over 50 percent of its residents having the option to use fiber internet. Only 16,000 people in Atlanta are limited to one or fewer internet providers.
