The Internet coverage data on this page is primarily sourced from provider coverage reports. Data is confirmed through privatized databases to output more accurate listings than can be accessed through the FCC directly. Lit address data is currently limited to select providers. Data about speed and pricing of specific Internet plans is sourced by our research and analysis experts, who collect thousands of plans annually. There are 409 plans in Scranton from 2014 to the present. There are 28 Internet packages currently on the market in the area.

When we're looking at network technology being used across Scranton, we see that the most common wired broadband connection infrastructures are Cable (98.70 percent coverage) and DSL (96.63 percent coverage). Cable connections are sold by former television providers, leveraging their existing coaxial cable networks. Cable often makes sense for local residents because of the strong mix of speed and value. DSL is transmitted via phone lines on utility poles, and is sold by corporations like Verizon High Speed Internet that build or own copper phone lines. DSL is the slowest of all major broadband services.

Viasat Internet is the most widely available Internet option for Scranton residents. They are available to near one hundred percent of Scranton addresses. HughesNet is the most common second option, serving virtually one hundred percent of local addresses with Satellite Internet service. The fastest package advertised by HughesNet in Scranton is 25 Mbps.

Outside of the services listed above, XFINITY from Comcast provides a third option for wired broadband in 98 percent of Scranton. Wireless providers such as Skypacket and satellite Internet companies like are worth considering. However, the main wired options are usually a better value so far as performance.

Customer Reviews of Internet Providers in Scranton

Worst customer service I’ve ever had

Just spent half an hour explaining to 3 different people about the credit I was supposed to receive after cancelling my account. No one can help with anything. Bill was supposed to be taken care of after 3 weeks of no internet service. Two days after they fixed it was down again. They couldn’t come out for close to a month and they want to charge me for it. Not worth the hassle.
