Internet Access in Iola, Wisconsin

3-4 Internet providers are available for the average Iola location. This is actually a strong amount of choice contrasted with similar-sized cities. Competition between two or more ISPs in a city is correlated with lower regional pricing.

TDS Telecom and T-Mobile Home Internet also have coverage in Iola, although speed test data indicates that TDS might be more robust.

DSL has widespread availability in comparison with other Internet technologies within Iola since it uses landline phone cable to send data. The physical DSL line usually reaches the home via a utility pole, and you plug in a modem to the ethernet jack inside to enable your home Wifi.

Coverage from the two most common providers, Viasat Internet and HughesNet, in general, will overlap. As you might expect, the decision between Viasat and HughesNet is a common one.

Broadband coverage statistics on the page below are based on government data from the FCC and privatized datasets collected directly from providers. Average statistics about speed averages comes primarily from M-Labs, which is a speed test tool integrated into BroadbandNow and Google and Chrome search results. The BroadbandNow market researchers have manually validated package pricing and plan details on 211 broadband offerings in the Iola market as of 2021.

This statistic is drawn from the population in census blocks not served by at least one wired broadband provider.

Fiber coverage data is sourced from FCC Form 477 filings and cross-validated through BroadbandNow with private datasets and direct provider reporting.

Approximately 43% of Iola residents are serviced by multiple wired providers.

This coverage statistic is based on a mix of FCC and private provider reporting in the past two quarters.

In Waupaca County, approximately 12,000 people do not have access to 25 Mbps wired broadband.

25 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload is the minimum speed for an Internet connection to be classified as “Broadband” by the FCC.

Data Cap Issues and Video Streaming Around Iola

Data from our market research team suggests that many of the common providers place some sort of limit on data use on residential broadband connections. Data caps are controversial because subscribers view caps as a strategy to stop streaming, while providers maintain that they are a reasonable strategy for managing network congestion. In either case, the problem is the same: over-the-top streaming, which easily consumes anywhere from one to seven Gigabytes per hour.

Customer Reviews of Internet Providers in Iola

TDS Internet

We basically have a catch it while you can service from TDS and most of the time it is not available. I get into the middle of a project and lose my internet service. Will be making a phone call to TDS tomorrow, and if it is not something they can fix right away, I will be looking for another service right away. We are totally unhappy with the reliability, dependability, speed, and access to this very poor provider of internet services in Wisconsin. It worked okay when we first got it, but lately it has gone down the tubes, with no light in sight as far as them correcting any of their outages in the near future.
