Good people but too far from server
The customer service is really good. The tech guy for the whole area is a local I actually see around but the server for the area is 50+ miles away. On my best day, I only get 4Mbps download speed which struggles to manage 2 people on their phone and Netflix running without having to stop and buffer the video.
Does TDS Have Customer Service? I have not seen any!
Customer service is non-existent! I called twice to talk with someone. First time I was on hold for 37 minutes and I finally hung up. Second time after waiting 21 minutes, someone finally picked up. I asked one question, they put me on hold for 5 minutes. Then I asked if I could move my phone number to a mobile provider, Tony put me on hold again. Should that be something all customer service reps should know? After being on the phone a total of 1 hour on just this call, 97 minutes total, I hung up once it was 7:11PM figuring they were not going to come back since the website says they are open until 7:00 PM! Also reviewing their website, phone and internet costs $39.94/mo., a special. We are currently paying $90+ for the same service and that only includes local calls, no long distance. We have been a customer for 28 years. I guess they do not care about their customers!
slow, and getting slower
TDS is the only option we have, however, it keeps getting slower and slower. We installed a new router but did not help. We need more options. I am only 1 mile from the TDS office. I can't imagine how bad it must be at the end of the run.
We basically have a catch it while you can service from TDS and most of the time it is not available. I get into the middle of a project and lose my internet service. Will be making a phone call to TDS tomorrow, and if it is not something they can fix right away, I will be looking for another service right away. We are totally unhappy with the reliability, dependability, speed, and access to this very poor provider of internet services in Wisconsin. It worked okay when we first got it, but lately it has gone down the tubes, with no light in sight as far as them correcting any of their outages in the near future.
Very slow and interrupted service
I pay $55/month for supposedly 5 Mbps download and 0.5 Mbps upload. My average speed is around 2 Mbps. It goes for stretches of good connectivity, then dropped connection every hour. I have not been able to find anything comparable because we live in a rural area (no cable access, etc) .
Wish I had options
In the middle of town, I can only sign up for 1 Mbps, and even that is unreliable. Frequent problems with signal and/or equipment. Unfortunately, their only competitor forces you into a 2-year contract, so we went with TDS.
Poor service very spotty service
We pay for 5 Mbps and consistently get 1.5 or less when the DSL works. We have no other options in our area other than satellite which has an unrealistic data cap. When we talk with TDS about our issue its always the same answer... too many users not enough bandwidth. In my humble opinion, a company shouldn't sell a product they can't deliver. I have been told I can always move up to a faster plan however I'm told that I won't receive any improvement in my actual speed unless I use the internet when the rest of my community is not using their connection... i.e. 2 am. We have had this service for 15 years with always a promise of faster speeds and no delivery of faster speeds.
Equipment Problem - Poor Internet Speeds
TDS has an equipment problem related to DSL service out of their Strong, ME office. Speeds are reduced at least 75% from advertised speeds. They only reduced my monthly charges by 25% for the balance of 2018. No published information as to when this problem will be fixed but I'm s\assuming not soon. Local technicians are great but being supplied with bad equipment to service.
Less than expected and they don't care
I am getting 25 Mbps out of 100 Mbps I'm paying for. Fiber line too. Should be blazing fast. They require use of their modems. Can't boost signal by replacing it. Not pleased and TDS doesn't care. Guess I'll be switching.
TDS has been reliable and helpful but limited bandwidth
We have been TDS customers for 15+ years with DSL connection with speeds of 3-4 Mbps. In our neighborhood they "rent" phone lines from ATT (Westmorland neighborhood- Madison, WI). I don't have any specific complaints aside from the slower bandwidth. Because of work needs and the slower bandwidth, I will be converting to a different ISP.
HAPPY and SATISFIED customer
I am not sure why there are reviews out there "knocking" TDS service, but I would like to pass on my experience to anyone who has TDS Telecom service and is reluctant to change to "Fiber Optic" Technology. Having lived most of my life within rural communities in New Hampshire, I have been a customer of TDS Telecom for several years which included phone and internet and have no complaints to report. During that time (after antennas became obsolete), Cable TV was not available in my area and Satellite Dish receivers were the required means of providing television service. (DISH and DIRECT TV are the ones offered in my area) A few years ago, TDS started running what they called "Fiber Optic" cable technology in the vicinity of my residence. Although excited that this would provide me with better TV and Internet service, my home was fairly new, completely wired with coaxial cable and I was reluctant to change what was in place. So I told myself I was comfortable, "accepted" the reception I had from DISH and turned down multiple promotions to upgrade to the TDS High Definition service. One day recently, I happened to call TDS once more and once again inquired about changing to fiber optic TV Service. As always, I was connected to a very friendly, polite, representative who was well versed in her subject material and again explained to me all the benefits of fiber optic - high definition reception. She was compassionate, understanding and I'm sure felt my anxiety about "change" and assured me how much more pleased I would be with the upgraded service. She was not "pushy", and her calming demeanor and thorough explanation of my option to discontinue the service should I not be completely satisfied, convinced me to "give it a try". She even provided me with her telephone number and direct extension should I have further questions and/or concerns. The day scheduled for the "upgrade"/installation, two representatives arrived who work for a company that sub-contracts to do install work for TDS. They were also very polite, respectful, professional, and took time to walk me through the entire procedure to explain what they would be doing so I fully understood what to expect and what I was getting. They did an EXCELLENT job and also took the time along the way to answer any questions I may have had and did not leave until after ensuring the service and signal to ALL my televisions (I have several) and internet (which was upgraded to 100 mbps) was working perfectly. I have had high definition TV and signal through satellite Dish TV for many years, but it was only when I sat down to watch television with my new Fiber Optic high definition reception that I realized what I had been missing. The clarity and difference was unbelievable and I could not have been happier with my decision to upgrade to this service. The cost was in the vicinity of what I was paying with DISH and I am very thankful to the TDS staff for their patience and for guiding me into making the decision to upgrade and become a member of "Fiberville", which I would recommend to anyone! Happy and satisfied TDS Customer
I've had TDS since the early 1990's when there was only dialup. Their service has grown over the years and I currently have 5 Mbps DSL which has always been reliable. I can stream Netflix, YouTube, and it's unlimited. The only complaint is the cost of $62/ month. The internet itself is closer to $40, but because of the required land line to get it, there are all kinds of extra fees which drive the cost up. No complaints otherwise, their customer service has always been good. I do recommend buying your own modem, because theirs kept kicking me offline and you have to pay a rental charge.
Positive. Always fix issues fast. Good speed. Very helpful. Always someone there to pick up the phone. Their tech team fixes issues no one else could resolve. Very happy.
Internet service review.
Very reliable, good customer service, poor speed on internet. My top speed is 15 Mbps but is very inconsistent, ranging from 13 Mbps to less than 1 within seconds.
Pretty bad DSL for rural customers
Our internet goes out sporadically and comes back on with no explanation. It is slow, especially upload speeds.
Maybe 2 outages a month. Pay 40 bucks a month for 6Mbps download and 6Mbps upload. Fairly consistent speeds. Fyi don't use their modem router combos the Wi-Fi sucks on them. Just rent their modem and buy yourself a decent dual band router.
The customer service has an "I don't care attitude", the service is on and off, and is not strong enough to provide internet throughout the house.
Only thing available
Service is often interrupted without explanation. Always needing to "reboot" modem resulting in more data being used from cell phone provider despite having to pay for wireless through TDS. Have had TDS switch modem several times and that doesn't ever seem to work. Tired of having such sporadic service that is so costly.
If I had another choice...
TDS Internet is neither reliable nor quick. On a 15 Mbps line (the fastest offered here), I regularly receive service at less than 1 Mbps. Their website splash offers speeds up to 1 Gbps, but that seems to be only in a couple of select areas - not the rest of the area in which I live. Wireless providers in the area cap data so not the best option for download or data streaming. I guess I will have to sell my house and move...
I'm happy with TDS, normally I don't have to call them, but when I do, they're happy to help me out. Their speeds/prices seem to be fair, and I plan on doing business with them for as long as am in their area.
Sporadic Service, but best option in our area
Long lines at office, only to be told you have to call someone. They only handle billing issues. Our service goes in and out constantly, but in our neighborhood, it's the best option.
Stuck with poor service.
Constantly on the blink, has never lived up to advertised speeds. Service is only a small step above dial up and the cost is unfair for the service supplied.
TDS has been a provider for The City of Carlsbad for at least 4 years. Due to the fact that they have changed ownership from US Cable, then BAJA Broadband, and now TDS some customer service has not been the best. Escalations are not easy and we are a municipality with about 20 locations depending on our broadband connections. Speed probably due to growing pains fluctuates fairly often. Overall I think they are the best broadband in the area, but we are not in Dallas.
TDS has been a good service for us.
The fastest internet I've ever had. We've been down 1 day in 3 years. TDS gets a high recommendation from this household.
If I had a good alternative, I would leave TDS in a heartbeat. Our service is intermittent---we are constantly being kicked off the internet. The service people are friendly and helpful, but we continue to have issues with the reliability of the signal.
